How
to make GOLD!!!
I have used new or
recovered parts for my crane : green, red, gold or zinc ones but never
rusted ! All parts were straightened and then stripped outdoors with
a caustic cleaner. Zinc platted parts were also finished with diluted
hydrochloric acid, rinsed and dried up, then soaked in a rusty destroyer
bath, wiped and dried again.
WARNING :
Those operations are dangerous ! (Have a look on every products instruction)
At last, you can paint them
with a spray gun or an airbrush after setting the air output properly.
To get a tint very close to the 50s gold, make a mixture of :
125
ml of PALE GOLD DULUX VALENTINE VALÉNITE
+
2 ml of RED MADRAS DULUX VALENTINE VALÉNITE
When you're ready to paint,
widely use a thinner, directly injected in the airbrushes bowl. Personally,
I use a syringe to transfer the paint from my pot to the airbrushes
bowl and another one to add the thinner.
Put the parts on a support,
for example a wire netting or a piece of wire, in a small "cabin
of painting" made of a big wooden box provided a small Hoover on
the top connected outdoors. Don't forget to wear a mask !
Paint one face and let it dry around ten minutes, then flip the parts
and paint the other face.
When all parts are dry, you
can cook them in the domestic oven at about 150°C for ten minutes.
Be careful with time and temperature : more time or more heat and your
paint will be burned ! To avoid parts touching each others, make a support
with old Meccano angle girders and rods.
WARNING :
before doing this, be sure to have a 'written' authorization from madam
! :)
Good
luck !
